Longbooks

A longbook is a book-length work of non-fiction that tells one story.  It’s not a collection, not an anthology.  Maybe a biography, an auto-bio, a memoir, or a story of history.

Henry Grif:

Henry Grif is an independent tour guide for the battlefields of the American Civil War and the European Theater of World War II.  He has been called "The Mad Historian."  THE MULES OF MONTE CASSINO is his first book.

THE MULES OF MONTE CASSINO is a story of sacrifice, slaughter, and stupidity.  The Battle of Monte Cassino was the most mammoth and grisly of World War II.  If you have never even heard of it, Grif will tell you why.

One critic called the book, "A fic-mixing bouillabaisse of facts and steam, voices and spit.  Grif makes nearly as many mistakes explaining this battle as the Generals did fighting it, but at least he does it with wit and style and no loss of life."

BROWN FEDORA BOOKS guarantees that you have never read a history book anything like this one.

Janet Hurley:

Janet Hurley loves good writing.  This led her to complete the honors program in creative writing at “The Hill,” the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, then to a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  She’s a regular contributor to VERVE Magazine  (vervemag.com) and finds immerse joy in mentoring young writers through her small business, True Ink (trueink.com) in Asheville, North Carolina.  She also collaborates with the Thomas Wolfe Memorial site, as well as other schools and organizations, to offer classes and publishing opportunities.

Janet also loves boxing (when she doesn’t hate it).  From her childhood of watching heavyweight championship bouts on black and white television with her Dad and brother to cheering herself hoarse at various smoke-filtered club battles, she has gained a fine insight into the conundrums of the Sweet Science.

And she loved her brother. With a formidable intellect, a sense of humor and a philosopher’s take on the world—Brian Hurley was a middleweight dynamo with a tough chin and bright future in the ring.  For a time, he was the protégé of the great heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson.  As Floyd’s golden boy, Brian “coulda been a contender,” but, unlike Marlon Brando in “On the Waterfront,” Brian could not defeat the darker forces in that final frame.

GLOVE SHY, Janet’s first book, is her story of Brian’s triumphs and struggles and of her love for him.  Her writing will make you feel the finger-touch of an adoring young woman one minute, and rope burns across a bare back the next.

Look for GLOVE SHY coming soon to BROWN FEDORA BOOKS.
